The Maltese Historical Association (M.H.A.) in Melbourne held its fourth Bursaries Night on Tuesday November 13th at the Maltese Community Centre in Parkville. The Bursaries Scheme was introduced in 2004. Its main objective was/is to encourage students to study the Maltese language at various levels (primary and secondary) including at the V.C.E. (Victorian Certificate of Education) Level through the Victorian School of Languages.
Mr. Christian Zahra, a previous Member of Parliament and a current student of the Maltese language was a guest speaker at the Bursaries Night. He stressed on the importance of studying Maltese. This was also echoed by other speakers, including Ms. Angele Azzopardi, Maltese Consul-General in Melbourne, Dr. Victor Borg, President of the Maltese Council of Victoria, Mrs. Frances Bonnici, President of the M.H.A. and Mrs. Edwidge Borg, Maltese language teacher.
